Spring has arrived in metro Atlanta, and with it comes one of our biggest events: TribalCon (now in April, not February, and in a new location near Emory). Get out and support these amazing events brought to you by the vibrant raqs communities of metro Atlanta and Athens!

One of the Southeast's premiere events returns in a new home and a little later in the year! Brought to us by Ziah of Awalim and the Tribal Bellydance Center of Atlanta, this year's TribalCon once again features dance, music, and lectures, as well as gala shows and epic parties Friday and Saturday night with live music.

Classes and lectures are happening all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Friday and Saturday night shows feature a plethora of local, regional, and national talent, in addition to the instructors from the dance, music, and lecture tracks. Friday's show will be followed by a party with a funky prom theme (wear the best - or worst - prom dress you can find at the thrift store); Saturday's party will be all about SPARKLE (check this video for reference).

The Georgia Salimpour Collective brings us the first of several events focused on Arabic music and belly dance history. This event will focus on the kings and queens of Arabic music, including Mohammed Abdel Wahab, Um Kalthoum, Farid al-Atrache, and Abdel Halim Hafez.

Join Majda Anwar for a two-week workshop series featuring an original choreography inspired by the Jamila Salimpour Format. Majda has created a choreography to "Gamil Gamal," composed and sung by the legendary musician Farid al Atrache; it's believed to be an ode to Samia Gamal, and the choreography uses Jamila format movements with a definite Golden Era flavor.

Pittsburgh's Maria Hamer is one of the hidden treasures of Tribal belly dance. She's a founding member of troupes Ghawazee and Zafira. She graced the TribalCon stage a few years ago with her sisters in an amazing North African fusion piece.
