Developed by Canadian dancer Sabeya, Shimmy Mob brings raqs communities together to support local women's and children's shelters, celebrate World Belly Dance Day, and help bring our art form to the general public. Atlanta's Shimmy Mob will be at the Buckhead Arts Festival this year - a bustling, welcoming site.
Participants must register online before April 5 at www.shimmymob.com. Once you register, you'll receive a “Shimmy Mob Kit,” which includes links to online videos of the choreography breakdown and a Shimmy Mob T-shirt to wear on the day of the event. You'll need to learn the choreography (this year's choreography is by Bozenka!), either on your own with the videos or at a free class -- there are several local instructors offering classes.
Atlanta Shimmy Mob team leader Lacy Perry will be teaching the choreography in free classes to registered throughout April in Johns Creek/Alpharetta. The final rehearsal (required) will be held in Sandy Springs on Saturday, May 4. E-mail Lacy at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information!
The Athens Shimmy Mob will take place at the Athens Farmer's Market, with a hafla to follow, all benefiting Project Safe. Team leader is Rajni. Click here to learn more about how to participate in Athens!
